The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing goods to meet our operational needs.

Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 per year dependant on experience

Work Location:

The Role

  • Negotiate with suppliers to source and achieve the best possible price for parts, materials, goods and services ensuring purchases align with the company’s needs and budget.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers to secure advantageous terms.
  • Utilise supply chain management techniques to optimise procurement processes while searching for solutions to reduce costs.
  • Collaborate with internal departments across the business to identify procurement needs.
  • Monitor inventory and manage stock levels to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and address issues promptly.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar role with manufacturing or engineering background (2+ years’ experience preferred).
  • Demonstratable experience of excellent negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of logistics and supply chain management principles.
  • Experience in the use of ERP systems preferred (experience of EFACS system is advantageous).
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities with a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to manage multiple priorities.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills

Production Engineer

Position Title: Production Engineer

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Location: Granville, Northern Ireland

 

The Production Engineer is responsible for overseeing the manufacturing process by designing new concepts and modifying existing designs, driving continuous improvement initiatives to ensure end user satisfaction and production floor support.

As a Production Engineer at bmi trailers ltd, your role will involve collaboration with multiple departments, including purchasing and robotics. The primary focus will be on production designs, carrying out ECNs and supporting the shopfloor with technical information and standard operating procedures as required. The role may also require a level of involvement with R&D projects and process improvement projects.

Skills:

  • Ability to transition ideas from the initial design phase through to the production process
  • Creating technical drawings for ideas, concepts and existing designs
  • Application of mathematic skills to select wheelbase and materials
  • Utilisation of PDM system to manage drawings and designs
  • Proficiency in populating Bills of Materials (BOMs) accurately

Key Responsibilities:

Production Process Support: 

  • Taking current designs and amending to meet customer specifications
  • Utilising Solidworks software to create designs as per production demands
  • Implement process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.

Quality Control & Assurance:

  • Ensure that all products meet the required quality standards through regular inspections, testing, and audits.
  • Collaborate with the quality control team to investigate and resolve any quality-related issues.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to address any quality concerns.

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure all production processes adhere to safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks.

Data Analysis & Reporting: 

  • Collect and analyse production data to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and present reports on production efficiency, costs, and quality metrics to management.
  • Track production KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and make recommendations for improvements.

Collaboration & Team Leadership:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, maintenance, quality, and purchasing, to achieve production goals.
  • Play an integral role in troubleshooting problems, resolving conflicts, and improving team performance.
  • Provide guidance and insight to junior engineers or shopfloor operatives.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implement best practices and foster a culture of innovation within the company.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field) preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar are a plus.

Experience:

  • Experience in a production engineering or manufacturing role, with a proven track record in optimising production processes would be desired.
  • Candidates with trailer engineering experience will be prioritised.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of engineering processes, and equipment.
  • Proficiency in Solidworks required (1+ years of use in industry essential) 

Analytical Skills:

  • Ability to analyse production data and use it to implement process improvements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex production issues.

Project Management Skills:

  • Experience managing or participating in cross-functional projects desired.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
